NEET-UG 2023: Uttar Pradesh Tops Qualifying Candidates, Followed by Maharashtra and Rajasthan, States NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday that Prabanjan J from Tamil Nadu and Bora Varun Chakravarthi from Andhra Pradesh have secured the highest scores with a percentile of 99.99 in this year’s NEET-UG medical entrance exam.

Out of the total 20.38 lakh candidates who took the exam, 11.45 lakh candidates have successfully qualified. Among the states, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of qualifying candidates with 1.39 lakh, followed by Maharashtra with 1.31 lakh and Rajasthan with over 1 lakh.

Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are known as the most populous states in the country, while Rajasthan also ranks in the top ten in terms of population.

The NTA conducted the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) on May 7, with 4,097 examination centers located in 499 cities across the country, including 14 cities outside of India.

According to a senior official from the NTA, “Seven candidates were found to be using unfair practices during the examination, and they have been dealt with according to the prescribed norms.”

The examination was conducted in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. “The NTA has assigned an All India Rank to each candidate, and the admitting authorities will prepare merit lists based on these ranks for MBBS and BDS seats falling under their jurisdiction,” stated the official. “When candidates apply within their respective states, they will mention their category as per the state category list. The state counseling authorities will then create their own merit lists accordingly. The NTA plays no role in this process,” the official added.
